Our Curriculum: Rigor, Relevance, and Readiness

The curriculum at Liberty Crest Academy is built on a powerful synergy between the Core Knowledge Sequence and Project-Based Learning (PBL), ensuring students gain deep, enduring knowledge and the essential skills needed for the 21st century.

From Core Knowledge to 21st Century Mastery

Foundation

We utilize the Core Knowledge Sequence to provide a robust, coherent, and cumulative curriculum across all grade levels. This approach is designed to systematically build a broad base of background knowledge and vocabulary, which is scientifically proven to be the most critical factor in reading comprehension and academic success.

  • Aligned with the Science of Reading: Our English Language Arts curriculum directly embodies the research of the Science of Reading. It features systematic and explicit phonics instruction in the early grades (the Skills strand) combined with a content-rich knowledge-building component (the Listening & Learning strand).

  • Common Core Alignment: The curriculum is fully aligned with the Common Core State Standards (CCSS).

More on Core Knowledge

Application

While Core Knowledge provides what students learn, Project-Based Learning dictates how they learn it, transforming them from passive consumers of information into active innovators.

  • Real-World Application: Projects begin with a "Driving Question" or an authentic, real-world problem.

  • 21st Century Skills: PBL inherently develops the skills essential for college and modern careers:
    • Critical Thinking & Problem Solving

  • Collaboration & Communication (working in teams and presenting solutions)

  • Creativity & Innovation

  • Grit and Resilience (learning to troubleshoot, revise, and iterate based on feedback)

Differentiation

Differentiation

Our online model allows for granular differentiation, tailoring the learning experience to each student's unique readiness, interest, and learning profile:

  • Tiered Activities in PBL: During project work, teachers differentiate by offering tiered resources, varied complexity in research tasks, and flexible scaffolding.

  • Voice and Choice in Products: Differentiation is built into the final assessment. Students have significant voice and choice in how they demonstrate mastery.

  • Flexible Pacing & Intervention: Through continuous formative assessment and digital tracking tools, teachers can quickly identify learning gaps.
